Use These Body Building Tips to Increase Your Health!

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

There is far more to body building than aiming to make your body into a replica of Arnold Schwarzenegger circa 1980 or so. Most people think that body building is about increasing your muscles to outrageous sizes. The truth is that body building is about strengthening your muscles and building them to create a healthy physique. “Getting ripped” is only a tiny bit of the sport. It is about getting healthy. If you are thinking about starting body building, here are some hints that you can use to help yourself out a little. Don’t forget that the key to body building is becoming healthy first and then getting pretty later. And don’t loose sight of your six pack abdominals.

Choose a good gym. Not all gyms have the type of equipment you need to use when you want to do some body building. Look at a bunch of gyms before you make a final decision about which gym to use. You want to use a gym that is used regularly by body builders.

You also want to find a gym that is well lit and incredibly clean. Your gym should have equipment that is well maintained and always in working order. The gym you choose should have a good vibe about it. If you don’t like to work out there you won’t be able to fully take advantage of your new membership. This could cause your body building efforts to wane. There are a lot of different body building exercises that you can do; take some time to learn about each of them. You do not have to commit to anything yet but try everything out. Each exercise will work a different muscle and learning them will help you figure out your future workout routine. It is easier to plan workouts and to get the results you want when you know which exercises and which tools have specific results on your body. Think about it: if you want to build up the muscles in your arms, you don’t want to do a bunch of exercises meant to develop your legs! If you take some time to explore and to learn you will be less likely to waste time and hurt yourself. And when working out with a bodybuilding goal to get six pack abs, this also is very important.

Always do a total body warm up before you start any exercise routine. Stretch all of your muscles before you begin lifting or doing other types of exercise. It is harder to tear or injure your muscles if you warm them up before your workout. “Cold” muscles are also much harder to work than muscles that have been warmed up properly. Cold muscles resist the effort that goes into working out. Warm muscles are loose and better able to take the strain of exercise. You don’t need to do a particularly long warm up, but you need to make sure that you stretch all of your muscles out. Body building is a great way to get your body into amazing shape. For most new body builders, getting healthy is the ultimate goal. It is only after a while that they shift their focus away from building health to building “prettiness”. It is important that you take care to approach body building the right way. Don’t forget that your first priority is to stay healthy. You don’t need to take risks or play games. Don’t push yourself too hard or to fast. You will achieve your goals. You just need to have some patience and put in some work to get there.

What would you list as your favorite martial arts films?

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

When I sort out my DVD’s I often like to go over a list of martial arts films from the past decade, as you can picture this can be very tough  narrowing the list down to a point  that I’m happy with. However there are certianly a lot of people out there that need a recommendation  when it comes to finding a superb  martial arts movie, wouldn’t  you agree?

So here is an attempt at my list of martial arts top 5 must see martial arts movies from 2000-2010.

I will start this list off by mentioning  the incredible movie, Equilibrium. This movie stars Christian Bale, as well as Taye Diggs in futuristic setting when humans take drugs to suppress human emotion. This movie shows us the “Gun Kata,” a very cool  type  of martial arts involving guns, as the name would suggest.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon would have to make any list about genre changing films. This movie was groundbreaking for its time, exposing us to people in effect flying and running across tree tops for the first time.

Another movie to include on this list would be Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1. Both movies in this story are great, but number 1 has the better fighting sequences.  One of the best fighting sequenes of all time ï»¿ï»¿is the Bridge against the Crazy **88

Another great  movie to watch if you are fan of these types of movies is Hero. Jet Li stars as a nameless warrior and this film is told in a very sweet sequence. Jet Li tells flashbacks of various battles, in a manner similar to the great Kurosawa film, Rashomon.

No martial arts list films would be complete for me without mentioning Tom Yum Goong. This movie stars the great  Tony Jaa, whose combination of Muy Thai martial arts with jaw dropping acrobatics makes this one of my favorites.

Do you have ADHD or learning difficulties? Then Try Martial Arts

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Autism Spectrum Disorder children (ASD) often don’t have much or no interest in structured sport style  activities. This can be changelling  to care givers, especially  parents and grandparents.

sports require certian  skills – often physical skills which autistic children tend to lag  behind other children of the same age. This can be frustrating and de-motivating in itself, on top of this you get the teasing and bullying from others  and criticism from the coach or parents. This is why it is extremely  common for an autistic child to quickly loose interest in sports.

Many adults find it important that the child participate in some sort of sport or exercise. Certainly it is good for health and can be great for confidence and well being if the child feels successful in the activity and this is just what martial arts training is good at doing

Something to consider doing for your child is trying martial arts.  There are many misconceptions about martial arts and its services – such as the violence aspect or bullying. However not all martial arts programs or schools are geared toward fighting or all about winning tournaments.

There are instructors that are knowledgeable about ADHD, autism or specialize in shy kids. They focus on building confidence, making it a fun and productive, confidence building experience.

Beyond this, it is easier for autistic children to succeed at martial arts because there are fewer specific physical requirements. For example, to hit a baseball, a child has to master swinging a small thin bat and hit a tiny ball. Think of all the precision, the skills in play all at the same time. This is all just to make a connection to the ball, then you can consider which way the ball goes and how far. Other sports have similar requirements, physical prowess or have extremely complicated rules.

In martial arts training things can be much simpler. Throwing a punch is something most any child can do. Even a child in a wheel chair can snap out a hammer fist strike. Then they have a sense of accomplishment. They now know a martial arts move, it has a fancy name. They earn a belt and feel respected by their teacher and other students. They fit in.

As they are able to, they can improve  – learning more movements, more complicated techniques and steps. However it is very important that time and care are taken. Both the instructor and the parent must be understanding and forgiving

For certain autistic children such as Asperger’s type, you may have success integrating counting – such as increasing the number of strikes – 2, 4, 6 or 8 – by twos – or, by tens. The instructor might use Japanese vocabulary to count as an additional incentive.

At the end of the day, be sure to demonstrate interest – be sure it is true  interest, and show genuine praise when warranted. These children can be very smart , and can often tell when they are being given false or exaggerated praise.

Be sure to check out multiple studios or schools, talk to the instructors, find out who would be teaching your child, and what experience they have with your child’s traits. Watch a class or two. Ask questions, and have fun with your child.
